The Lowdown on Wet to Dry hair straighteners
Let’s face it, making yourself look good in the morning takes time – a lot of time, actually. After a shower, you’d have to dry your hair before you style it, prepare your outfit for the day, and put on make up. For the those who are busy and always in a hurry, looking your best in the morning can be a daily struggle.
A styling tool that’s becoming more and more popular today is the wet-to-dry straightener. They’re just like your ordinary flat iron, but with the added capacity for drying. This means you get to use these flat irons on wet hair, drying as you style. Press your hair and after a few minutes, your full head of locks are dry and completely straight. This could be the very answer to faster styling that all busy bees are waiting for.
In a hurry? Check out the Jose Eber Wet and Dry Flat iron
However, it’s important to note that wet-to-dry straighteners are not to be used on soaking wet hair. Some towel drying is needed so you can safely use these irons. As long as your hair is not dripping wet, and just slightly damp, then everything’s good to go.

Soy protein is known for nourishing and moisturizing skin and hair, which means you get ultra hydrated strands that will make them look silky smooth and soft. It also has next generation ceramic plates that heat fast and maintains an even temperature. Its maximum heat is at 425 degrees Fahrenheit, which is reached in as little as 30 seconds. Giving you peace of mind, this iron automatically shuts off after 60 minutes of disuse. So even if you left it with the power on in the bathroom, you won’t need to worry even if you’ve left the house.
The plates are 2″ wide, allowing for faster styling due to its capacity to cover wider strands of hair. If your hair is dry, you can still use this iron for straightening. A green light is turned on when it’s ready for wet hair, and it turns amber when it’s ready for dry hair.
The main advantage of this product are the soy-infused ceramic plates. Ceramic plates condition hair in itself, but with the soy conditioners, hydration is taken to the next level. The steam vents found on top of the iron safely removes water from damp hair, which is the very mechanism that dries your hair in the first place.
The only disadvantage is that using this iron may not provide the volume that you get from using a hair dryer.

Its maximum heat is 410 degrees Fahrenheit and it contains negative ion technology and produces far-infrared heat for less damage on your hair.
Wet to dry flat iron vs regular flat iron
If you use a regular flat iron on damp hair, it can literally boil your hair and cause breakage, which is why you need to dry your hair totally before you use it. Wet ’n dry straighteners, on the other hand, have a special venting system to allow moisture to escape through steam instead of remaining in the hair shafts, leaving hair straight and smooth as it dries.
Using a wet to dry hair iron will result in that pin straight look which those of you with thick and curly hair will appreciate. If you want body, it’s better to blow dry your hair first for volume before straightening it.
Wet to dry flat iron reviews
Based on hundreds of user reviews on different wet to dry flat irons, they work just as well as your regular straighteners. In fact, many top models have a “damp to dry” option. You have a choice of either ceramic or tourmaline plates. Some brands have adjustable heat settings and auto shut-off feature.
Do wet to dry flat irons damage hair?
The first time these wet and dry straightening irons came out a few years ago, people were very much concerned about it causing even more damage than traditional flat irons. It was met with mixed reviews – some claimed it damaged their hair and made it frizzy whereas swear by it.
To put it to perspective, all heat styling tools can cause some damage to hair in one way or another, as it depletes your hair’s natural moisture. This is why it’s important to condition hair. If you have thin fine hair, your hair will be prone to breakage so using a flat iron on your wet hair will just do more harm than good.
While manufacturers claim that they “cause less damage than regular flat irons”, they are some guidelines to consider in using them. Although you can them straight out of the shower, it’s better to towel dry your hair and make sure it’s not dripping wet. Even better, you can do a quick blow dry until your hair is just a bit damp (but not totally dry) before you use it.

Is 1 or 10 the best?
Hi Sandy, thanks for dropping by 🙂 I recommend #1, the Jose Eber if you’re after the wet to dry feature. We’ve listed the Top 10 to give people other options.
Hi Tiffany
I just bought the Royale wet & dry pro straighten hair yesterday . The guy was at the boot in the mall did a very good job on my hair. He made it curly and beautiful . But when I did it myself I found out it is pretty difficult to do it. I finally give it up. No return policy is anyway you can help me or some kind of video showing how to do it please. It cost me $190 us
Thanks
Julie
Hi Julie, sorry to hear that. Did you go back to mall booth where you bought it? I’m pretty sure they have some sort of return policy, as it would be illegal not to. Although I’m not sure if ‘change of mind’ is included as a valid reason.. If you bought it online (like from Amazon), they have a good return policy which could make it easier for you to try it and return if it doesn’t work for you.
For now, you can contact Royale USA about return & refund. You can visit them here: http://royaleusa.com/index.php/contacts/ Their phone number is listed on their website too. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Tiff
Wondering if a wet to dry iron exists as a travel cordless version for camping?
Hi Disco, the cordless ones I’ve encountered so far are so crappy they aren’t worth mentioning. But if I do encounter one that fits your description, I will let you know.
