The Best Essential Oils For Your Hair
Whether you want healthier hair or are dealing with a specific issue (such as dry hair or oily hair), there are essential oils that can help. Using an essential oil is often more affordable and a lot healthier than using special shampoos or other hair care products. Most products you will find in stores contains chemicals that can irritate your scalp and make your hair dry.
How to apply essential oils to your hair or scalp
Regardless of which essential oil you decide to use, you need to use them properly so that they will be adequately absorbed by your hair and scalp. Apart from directly massaging the oil into your scalp, the best way to apply essential oils is to mix a few drops of it with your usual shampoo or conditioner.
Take the time to carefully massage the shampoo or the conditioner in your hair and rinse thoroughly.
Essential Oils That Are Good For The Hair
You can create your own blend of essential oils if you would like to treat different issues and should always use some carrier oils in your mixture to help your hair and scalp absorb the other oils. The best carrier oils depend on your hair type.
Here are some of the best essential oils you can use for healthier hair:
Making your hair healthier

Rosemary Oil
If you do not have any specific problems with your hair but would like your hair to look healthier and shinier, you can use lemon extract, rosemary essential oil or lavender oil.
Thyme and cedarwood extracts are also excellent choices.
Use a few drops of borage, jojoba or almond oil in your mixture to help your hair and scalp absorb the other oils.
Treating dry hair

Thyme Essential Oil – HealingScents
If you have split ends or find that your hair tends to break very easily, you can treat it with a few different essential oils.
Geranium oil and lavender oils will do wonders for your dry hair.
You should use cocoa butter, avocado or rosemary essential oil to help your dry hair absorb the other essential oils you decide to use in your mixture.
What to do about oily or greasy hair?

Peppermint oil
If your hair looks greasy, you need to use essential oils that will stimulate a healthy production of oils from your sebaceous glands.
The best essential oils are peppermint, lemon, cypress and lavender.
You should mix these essential oils with sesame or jojoba essential oils to help your sebaceous glands absorb the other essential oils.
Promoting hair growth
Some essential oils can make your hair stronger and help with hair growth. If you want longer and healthier hair, your best option is to mix some carrot extract and some peppermint essential oil. You should mix these oils with a few other carrier oils adapted to your hair type.
Cleansing your hair
If your hair is excessively greasy or is difficult to clean because you used a hair care or a hair styling product, you need to start by cleansing your hair. The best way to cleanse your hair is to apply some lemon or tangerine essential oil. You can use any of the other treatments mentioned above once your hair has been cleansed.
Essential oils for black hair

Jojoba Oil
If you have natural black hair, using essential oil will make your hair stronger and healthier.
You can use a mixture of tea tree oil, myrrh oil, rosemary or peppermint essential oils to get good results.
Jojoba oil, avocado and coconut essential oils are excellent choices for your carrier essential oil.
Are essential oils better than regular hair care products?
Essential oils are a better option than using regular hair care products because they will not irritate your scalp. Most hair care products contain chemicals that can make your scalp dry, which can result in dry hair that breaks easily or cause your sebaceous glands to produce more oil than necessary to compensate for your dry scalp. This usually results in oily hair.
Essential oils are a much gentler way to treat your hair and will help you find the right balance for a healthy scalp and stronger hair. You might have to test a few different essential oils before you find something that works for you but you will get excellent results once you find the right blend of oils.
Thanks for the article.
I also found out that natural oils have actually been scientifically tested and proven to help regrow hair and boost hair growth.
The study used a blend of just 4 natural oils and found after 6 months that 44% ( not sure exact figure but it is in the article 🙂 ) of people found a “clear hair regrowth”.
Even better the oils are so cheap compared to some of the chemical products like minoxidil! The link to the page with the links to all the studies is http://arganoildirect.com/argan-oil-natural-treatments-for-healthy-hair-and-regrowth
Thanks for sharing. I checked it out, and found that, indeed, argan oil efficacy is backed by scientific studies! 🙂
How do you apply these oils?? Leave in or rinse out?
Leave in 😉 unless you mix these essential oils in with your shampoo/conditioner (which you can)
