A Look at the Best Shampoo for Relaxed Hair

When you have your hair chemically treated, you’ll need to give your hair extra attention as it can become sensitized and get damaged without proper care. Having a hair relax or rebond (or other chemical straightening procedures) strips your hair of natural moisture hence the need for deep conditioning. Some people treat their hair only once a week. However if prefer one that you can use on a regular basis and still have that ’nourishing’ effect that ordinary shampoos don’t have, then the following products are your best bet.

Kerastase Resistance Bain De Force Fortifying ShampooA high-end product line from L’Oreal, Kerastase is known to be expensive yet deliver results and Kerastase Resistance Bain De Force do just that. Designed to be used for weakened hair, this works like a charm for chemically treated hair. It’s proprietary Vita-Ciment complex nourishes and strengthens damaged hair.

Relaxed hair is the result of a straightening procedure that uses chemicals to relax curly or wavy hair. Because of these chemicals, hair often becomes weak and prone to dryness.

TIGI Bed Head Urban Antidotes Recovery shampooThe conditioner is perfect for relaxed hair that needs a moisture lift from the effects of these hair relaxer products. You need TIGI Bed Head Urban Antidotes Recovery Shampoo if you have had your hair relaxed.

TIGI Bed Head Urban Antidotes Recovery Shampoo and Conditioner Duo – 25.36 oz.

This shampoo moisturizes dehydrated hair, strengthening hair from root to tip and giving it shine as only recovered and healthy hair can have. You will also need TIGI Bed Head Urban Antidotes Recovery Conditioner to rejuvenate hair that has been through chemical-laden relaxers with the proprietary blend of turbo hydration molecules which help boost shine and softness.

Matrix Total Results Sleek Shampoo & ConditionerFor its price, Matrix Total Results Sleek Shampoo & Conditioner is unbeatable. It not only cleans hair thoroughly but also repairs damaged hair and prevents frizz and static from developing. It purifies hair as it adds moisture, leaving hair fortified, smoothed, and renewed to give it all-day protection from humidity.

The ceramides in the conditioner penetrates deep within the scalp to repair damaged layers of hair cuticle and strengthens hair strands against all kinds of damage including those that result from excessive blow-drying and hair relax products. The shea butter ingredient gives hair root to hair tip moisture and hydrates each strand to prevent dryness.

Women on various forums and websites have reported that their relaxed hair had issues of tangling and dehydration because while hair relaxers do their job, they also dry out hair and make it brittle. It’s worse when you have dandruff as most anti dandruff shampoos make your hair feel limp and heavy. Well, most but not all 😉

Avlon Keracare Dry and Itchy Scalp Shampoo and conditionerIf you suffer from persistent dandruff and you have relaxed hair, try using Avlon Keracare ‘Dry and Itchy Scalp’ as it is good to use even on chemically treated tresses.

Avlon Keracare Dry & Itchy Scalp Anti-Dandruff Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner Set – 8 oz.

It’s also a moisturizing shampoo, which means that it nourishes your hair and scalp, preventing dryness while cleaning and eliminating flakes and itchiness. A lot of people were quite happy with the results, so give it a try and see how it goes!

Best Clarifying Shampoo for Relaxed Hair

When you use a lot of hair products, stuff tends to build up on your hair and scalp and a clarifying shampoo will help get rid of residue and build-up. If you’re afraid of using one yet you think you need one (especially if your hair gets too oily), you can just it as needed although there are women who use it on a weekly or bi-monthly basis. To prevent hair damage, follow it up with a moisturising shampoo and deep condition so it won’t cause tangles or dry out your hair.

There are lots of clarifying shampoos to choose from. Some have matching clarifying conditioners (which some people prefer, as it lessens the drying effect clarifying does to hair). In choosing the best one for you, consider your budget, how often do you plan on using it, and whether you don’t like certain ingredients in your hair products.

ORS Olive Oil Creamy Aloe ShampooAn affordable clarifying shampoo (not the cheapest, but it won’t break the bank) is ORS Olive Oil Creamy Aloe. It actually helps in removing relaxer residue from hair and scalp which makes it a good choice for those who just had their hair relaxed.

RS Olive Oil Creamy Aloe Shampoo, 12.5 oz.

A lot of “relaxed” women actually use this, according to an online poll from a hair care forum. It contains aloe vera and olive oil, both of which are nourishing to the hair. A word of caution though, although the brand ORS formerly stood for “Organic Root Stimulator”, this product in itself is NOT truly organic as it contains parabens and SLS. Some buyers felt like they were duped by misrepresentation, so I felt I had to tell you that. On the plus side, it does work as you can tell by the recent high ratings from users who are satisfied with it.

Pureology Purify ShampooIf you want a sulphate free shampoo for relaxed hair, your best bet is Pureology Purify. It’s safe for color treated hair as it does not strip hair color. In fact, one user remarked how this doesn’t dry out her scalp like other sulfate free shampoos, and said that it worked well for cleaning her relaxed hair once every couple weeks. The only downside is that it’s a bit pricey compared to other brands!

On the upside, this thing works and it works well 🙂 You probably won’t be using a purifying shampoo that often so it’s worth a splurge if you want the best that money can buy.
